In the fall of 2008 we originally told you about the pending formation of an IIKA Masters Council. As you may recall, the intent of this body is for master-level IIKA instructors to travel to member dojos, host seminars/clinics and referee’s workshops in an effort to maintain our mission involving the practice of pure Isshinryu Karate and further enhance our association on behalf of our membership.
This group would also be responsible for providing insight and suggestions to the IIKA Board to address the needs and issues of our members. Participation was originally limited to master levels from Roku-Dan and above. In the final development stage, however, the IIKA Board has chosen to also include Go-Dans for participation. Since 5th Dans are being prepared to assume future roles as Roku-Dans; the Board felt that inclusion on the Masters Council would give them additional time to develop the necessary knowledge and skills before assuming Roku-Dan status. The first Masters Council meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Mr. Gabbard's dojo in Decherd, TN. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. (Central time) and end at 1:00 p.m. Please note that the date is different from the one originally published in the Calendar of Events Newsletter distributed earlier this month.
